The story

Why I started OpenElpis

Ali Tajbakhsh — also known as Alan Tajbakhsh — is the founder of OpenElpis, an independent, non-profit, open-source initiative building a trustworthy, citation-grounded AI research copilot for breast cancer.

A Technical Business Analyst and Project Manager based in Türkiye, Ali has spent his career turning complex technical work into things people can actually use. OpenElpis grew out of a simple conviction: that the world's hard-won medical knowledge should reach the researchers and clinicians fighting breast cancer — clearly, openly, and grounded in real evidence.

“My goal is to help. Breast cancer research moves fast, but trustworthy answers don't always reach the people who need them. OpenElpis is my attempt to close that gap — in the open, for free, for everyone.”

Breast cancer is the most-researched cancer in the world, yet thousands of papers a week and hard-won clinical insight never reach the people who could use them. OpenElpis starts there — a trustworthy middle layer where every contribution is validated in and every answer is citation-grounded out — and is built to extend the same trust pipeline to other cancers over time.

Ali leads the project across product, engineering, and partnerships — from the live platform to the funding and infrastructure that keep it running on donated resources. If you're a researcher, clinician, engineer, or potential sponsor, he'd love to hear from you.
